I am 35 y/o and was diagnosed with Endometriosis on Aug. 31, 2011.
The doctor removed some Endometriosis and said I would be fine. About 3 weeks after surgery endometriosis returned and I was in extreme pain for 3 months (A pain level of 10.)
I agreed with my doctor to have a LSH (laproscopic supracervical hysterectomy) and BSO (bi-lateral salpingo oopherectomy). At my 5.5 week checkup my doctor put me on Estradiol 1mg; because of the surgical menopause.
I was having terrible night sweats, insomnia, & hot flashes. I have been on the ERT for a little over a week and I do believe endometriosis has returned.
I am in extreme pain again (back pain, vaginal & abdominal cramps, and groin pain.) I will probably have to come off the ERT and hope the endometriosis will go away!
I hope it will go away like the doctor said it would. If I were to do this all over again; I will have to wait and see! If by getting off the Oestrogen does make the endometriosis die off and I no longer feel pain, then yes. Yes I would have a hysterectomy again. To not have painful periods any more then yes, it is worth the pain I went through. I hope this helps someone!!

Title: I went in for a partial hysterectomy but my ovaries were the size of grapefruits with endometriosis
I went to the Dr. because I was having 2 periods and pain for a few months. The ultrasound in Jan. 2012 didn't show any issues. I went for pre-op visit on July 12th and Dr. didn't do a new ultrasound, so he didn't see what was coming. He only looked at the ultra-sound from January.
On May 15, 2012 I went in for a partial laparoscopic hysterectomy and woke up with an apology from the doctor, he did an abdominal (32 staples belly button to bikini line) full hysterectomy because when he opened me up my ovaries were the size of grapefruits, and I had endometriosis masses on my uterus as well.
He took every thing including half my cervix putting me into surgical menopause. The pain I had been in was instantly GONE! Finally! The surgical pain was not so bad after the first few days. The pain med's helped a lot, as of 2 months later I was on no pain meds and in no pain.
I am having hot flashes, night sweats etc. Was told to take 400 units of vitamin E 3 times a day. It works.
